That time of Year Again (Mercury in Retrograde)

We are wrapped around a mystery to which we were drawn before we were born.
Michael Meade

It’s that time of year again, Mercury is in retrograde, and being a human on planet earth becomes a bit more challenging if you do not take the time to reflect and connect to nature. Not everybody has the time to do this, and these silver and vitreous enamel earrings offer a bit of gentle narrative encouragement to find the time, or else. Yes, he is pointing at you! No, the other fellow is not laughing at you, he is laughing with you :)

made of: silver, copper, vitreous enamel, iron oxide transfer
measurements: Without the ear wires, the enameled panels measure almost one inch long and one inch wide. The ear wire is about 3/8ths of an inch long and can be fastened securely .
process: The enameling process for making these earrings is labor-intensive. It involves laying layers of finely-ground glass onto the copper forms and firing them multiple times at very high temperatures in a kiln. Lots of protective gear involved at every step. Then I gather tiny fragments of text and imagery from many different eras in history and fuse them into the enamel to tell the stories we may have forgotten.

Dimensions and details:
--including ear wires, earrings measure not quite 1.5 inches long and one inch wide
--the enameled copper panels measure 1 by 1 inch
--vitreous enamel over copper with iron oxide transfers set in sterling silver prong settings
--”so the darkness shall be the light” are the words on the back, for a bit of reassurance, and on the other earring, a dissolving bird
--I’ve designed the earrings for security, including a small hook at the bottom that you can clip the ear wire into
