east of Hercules

east of Hercules

I have read, and repeated, that our solar system as a
whole is careering through space toward a point east
of Hercules. Now I wonder: what could that possibly
mean, east of Hercules? …The planet…is like an exposed
mangrove island beautiful and loose…A mangrove island
turns drift to dance. It creates its own soil as it goes, rocking
over the salt sea at random, rocking day and night and
round the sun, rocking round the sun and out toward east of
Hercules.

edition: one-of-a-kind
made of: silver, copper, 24k, amazonite, vitreous enamel, iron oxide transfer
measurements: The enameled medallion measures just over 1.5 inches in diameter. Including the bail and rare Tahitian pearl detailing, it measures almost 2.75 inches long. A sterling silver chain is included, and you can choose from 16, 18, 20 or 24 inches long.
process: The enameling process for making this pendant is labor-intensive. It involves laying layers of finely-ground glass onto the copper forms and firing them multiple times at very high temperatures in a kiln. Lots of protective gear involved at every step. Then I painstakingly gather, cut and arrange tiny fragments of text and imagery from many different eras in history, as well as 24k gold details, and fuse them into the enamel to tell the stories we may have forgotten.
