Where the two worlds touch

Where the two worlds touch

My life is made up of some odd rituals that simply appeared out of nowhere. I all of a sudden thought I needed to do this or that, no thought process involved. One of those all-of-a-sudden, unusual behaviors is waking up in time to see the moon and/or stars before the sun comes up. This is not too early in the winter, but it is very early in the summer, 5 a.m.  Could reading this poem years ago have influenced my decision to convert from a night owl to a morning person, when time was right? In any case, you do not need to get up early to appreciate what Rumi is saying with this poem:

For years, copying other people, I tried to know myself.
From within, I couldn’t decide what to do.
Unable to see, I heard my name being called.
Then I walked outside.

The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

  • This necklace is adjustable from 16-18 inches
  • Store this necklace separately from your other jewelry to protect it.
  • The pearls are natural and approximately 1.5mm in size.
  • I've engraved some of Rumi's beautiful words on the back of the pendant, around the sleeping eyes, so that you always have them with you: "the breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you, don't go back to sleep"
  • Ingredients: fine and sterling silver, copper, vitreous enamel, natural tiny seed pearls (the tiniest I have ever seen!), tourmaline, tradewinds and tranquility
  • CARE: vitreous enamel is glass, so keep in mind that you will not want to drop this onto a hard surface--put this on over a bed or a rug. Silver is a soft metal, subject to dents and scratches when exposed to brutality. The chemicals in pools and hot tubs can damage your jewelry, so take this necklace off before going in. It will definitely ruin the pearls and probably eat away at solder joints. To clean the pendant, all you need to use is a soft bristle toothbrush and warm, soapy (mild) water. Pearls are an organic gemstone and chemicals will damage the nacre, so no hairspray, perfumes or harsh lotions in the area where you will wear this necklace. You can use a damp cloth to VERY gently wipe down the strand of pearls. Don't use soaps because of the chemicals in them!
  • I consider this a "delicate" necklace, to be worn with care.  The pearls are VERY tiny, natural and fragile because of their small size. If you love the necklace but don't feel like it would fit into your active lifestyle , I can make a version of this without the pearls, making it much easier to wear on a frequent basis.
  • Your pearls have been strung with a pearl silk and depending on how often you wear this, will need to be restrung at some point. This is normal with pearl strands. Probably best to have me do it. These are so tiny that I doubt you could find anyone to re-string them anyway! First re-stringing is at no charge, (you only pay for shipping), and after that, there is a small labor charge if you need me to do this for you again.
  • The pendant measure just shy of 1.5 inches long and is 1/2 of an inch high
  • Your work of art will come packaged in a simple wooden box, made of sustainably-harvested maple or birch by a Missouri craftsman.
  • Thank you!
